Zhen Wu Tang
真武汤 True Warrior Decoction
Warms the Kidney and Spleen yang to move water that has pooled. For swelling in the legs and face, heavy limbs, scanty urine, watery stools, a cold belly that aches, dizziness, and palpitations, in a cold, pale, puffy person. Named for the warrior of the north, the water direction.
Water needs heat to move: a frozen pond does not drain. Aconite is the sun on the ice, and the other four herbs dig the channels for the meltwater to leave by.

How Zhen Wu Tang works
Aconite relights the Kidney fire. Atractylodes and poria turn the Spleen back on and open the drain. Ginger warms the middle. Peony is the clever one: it softens the aconite's harshness and settles the cramping, which is why the formula can be used for weeks where plain aconite could not.

Formula pages describe classic use so you can read a label, ask a better question, and find the right monographs. They are education, not a prescription. A formula that fits the wrong pattern can make things worse, so match the picture first.
