Contraindications
- Uncontrolled hypertension, edema, hypokalemia, or severe heart failure
- High-dose or prolonged unsupervised use
Cautions
- Prepared licorice is still real licorice and still carries glycyrrhizin-related risks.
- Even when the preparation style is drier and less glossy than honey-fried licorice, it can still promote fluid retention, raise blood pressure, and lower potassium in susceptible patients.
